How to Put Your Custody Schedule on a Skylight Calendar
=======================================================

Show your OurFamilyWizard parenting time on a Skylight Calendar so the kids can see whose house it is tonight, kept up to date on its own.

> **Quick Summary:** A Skylight Calendar on the kitchen wall can answer "whose house tonight?" before the kids ask, but only if the custody schedule is on it. OurFamilyWizard has no Skylight integration, and typing the rotation in by hand breaks the first time a weekend is traded. OFWSync reads your OFW calendar and publishes a private feed link that Skylight syncs like any other calendar: copy the link, open the Skylight app, choose Synced Calendars, then Sync new calendar and Calendar URL, and paste it. Rename each household to something like "Mom's house" so it reads well on the wall, choose what to show, and make changes in OFW, where they stay on the record.

Kids in two homes ask the same question over and over: "Where am I sleeping on Thursday?" A family calendar display like Skylight is a good place for the answer, because it's on the wall where everyone can see it, and no one needs a phone or an OurFamilyWizard login to read it.

The catch is getting the schedule there and keeping it right. This guide shows how to put your OurFamilyWizard custody schedule on a Skylight Calendar as a synced calendar that updates on its own when OFW changes, and how to make it something a seven-year-old can read at a glance.

Why Put the Custody Schedule on the Wall?
-----------------------------------------

Moving between homes is easier for children when they can see it coming. A calendar on the wall makes the plan visible without anyone having to explain it again, and it takes the "who's picking me up?" questions off your plate.

It also helps everyone else in the house. A new partner, a grandparent who helps with school runs, or a babysitter can glance at the Skylight and know which nights the kids are home. None of them need access to your OurFamilyWizard account, which is where messages, expenses and the rest of your co-parenting record live.

If your family follows a common rotation, like 2-2-3 or week-on/week-off, seeing it laid out in color makes the pattern click for kids. Our guide to [common parenting schedules](/blog/2-2-3-2-2-5-5-and-week-on-week-off-common-parenting-schedules-explained) explains how each one looks over a month.

Step 1: Skip the Manual Entry
-----------------------------

The obvious approach is to type the rotation into Skylight as repeating events. It works until the first change. A swapped weekend, a holiday schedule or make-up time means editing the display by hand, and if you forget, the wall tells your kids the wrong thing. That's worse than no calendar at all.

Downloading a calendar file from OFW and importing it has the same problem. It's a snapshot of today's schedule that never updates.

What you want is a **synced calendar**: a calendar Skylight reads from a link and keeps reading, so changes appear without anyone touching the display. Skylight supports this through its **Calendar URL** option. OurFamilyWizard doesn't publish a link like that, which is the gap OFWSync fills. It reads your OFW calendar and publishes it at a private link Skylight can sync.

Step 2: Connect OurFamilyWizard and Copy Your Feed Link
-------------------------------------------------------

1. Create an account at [OFWSync](/register).
2. Choose **Connect OurFamilyWizard** and sign in with your OFW email and password. We check them with OFW straight away and store them encrypted. OFWSync only reads your calendar; it never sends messages or changes anything in OFW.
3. Wait for the first sync to finish. Your feed link appears on the dashboard once it has your schedule.
4. Under **Which calendar app do you use?**, choose **Skylight**, then copy **your private feed link**.

Treat that link like a key. Anyone who has it can see your custody schedule, so don't post it in a group chat. If it ends up somewhere it shouldn't, reset it from Feed settings and paste the new one into Skylight.

Every account starts with a 7-day free trial, so you can see the schedule on the Skylight before choosing a plan.

Step 3: Add the Feed in the Skylight App
----------------------------------------

Skylight synced calendars are added from the Skylight app on your phone or computer, not from the display itself.

1. Open the **Skylight app** on your phone or computer.
2. Tap the **menu** in the top right and choose **Synced Calendars**.
3. Tap **Sync new calendar**, then **Calendar URL**.
4. Paste your OFWSync link into **Calendar public share URL** and tap **Done**.

Skylight fetches the calendar and the parenting time appears on the display. Give it a little time for the first load. Skylight fetches synced calendars on its own schedule, not the moment you add them.

The short version of these steps is also on the [Skylight setup page](/ourfamilywizard-skylight).

Step 4: Make It Kid-Friendly
----------------------------

A feed built for a parent's phone isn't always right for a wall in the kitchen. A few minutes in OFWSync's **Feed settings** makes it something kids can read.

### Rename the households

By default, parenting time is named after the parent in OFW, like "With Dana". Under **Household names**, rename each one the way your kids say it: "Mom's house", "Dad's house", "Papa's", "Grandma's week". It's the single biggest improvement for young readers.

### Pick how parenting time looks

Under **Show parenting time as**, you have three choices:

- **All-day blocks.** Whole days named for whoever has the children overnight. Clean and easy to scan on a month view.
- **Exact times.** Blocks that start and end at the exchange time, so Friday shows "Mom's house" until 3 pm. Better for older kids who want detail.
- **One event per day.** An all-day event every day saying who has the children, like "Custody: Dana > 2 pm Chris" on an exchange day. Change the word before the names, or leave it blank, under **Word before the names**.

### Choose what shows up

Under **What to include**, turn parenting time, handoffs and OFW events on or off. On a shared family display, many parents keep parenting time and handoffs and leave events off, so private appointments from OFW, like a therapy session or a mediation date, don't end up on the wall. You can also set how far ahead to sync: 1, 3, 6 or 12 months.

### A calendar for each child

On the Plus plan, each child can have a calendar of their own, with only the OFW events they're on, plus parenting time and handoffs. Add each child's link as its own synced calendar in Skylight, and each child gets their own events on the display. That helps when siblings have different activity schedules, or when they don't always move between homes together.

Step 5: Keep It Accurate After Trades
-------------------------------------

Once the Skylight is set up, changes flow from OFW. When your co-parent approves a trade in OurFamilyWizard, OFWSync picks it up on its next check, and Skylight shows it the next time it syncs. Nobody edits the display.

How fast that happens depends on your plan:

- **Lite** ($3 a month or $30 a year) checks OFW once a day. That suits a fixed court order where the rotation rarely moves.
- **Plus** ($5 a month or $40 a year) checks OFW every hour, adds a **Sync now** button for urgent changes, and includes a calendar for each child. It suits families who trade weekends or juggle holidays.

Either way, Skylight decides when to fetch the updated feed. If a change is on your phone but not the wall yet, it's usually waiting on Skylight's next sync. Your OFWSync dashboard shows when we last checked OFW, so you can tell which side is waiting.

If the schedule ever stops updating altogether, check the dashboard. A changed OFW password is the usual cause; enter the new one and syncing carries on.

Common Mistakes
---------------

**Making the change on the Skylight.** Synced calendars are read-only on Skylight, and that's what you want. The schedule's source is OFW, where both parents can see every change. Propose the trade in OFW and let it flow through.

**Showing everything.** Your OFW calendar may hold entries you wouldn't pin to the fridge. Turn events off, or use a child's calendar, before the display goes up.

**Sharing your OFW login with the household.** A partner or grandparent doesn't need your OurFamilyWizard password to see the schedule. The Skylight, or the feed link in their own calendar app, gives them the schedule without messages and expenses. Our guide to [sharing a custody calendar](/blog/how-to-share-a-custody-calendar-without-sharing-everything-else) covers this in more detail.

**Importing a file instead of syncing a link.** A downloaded calendar file never updates. Always use **Calendar URL** in Skylight.

Frequently Asked Questions
--------------------------

### Q1: Does OurFamilyWizard work with Skylight Calendar?

Not directly. OFW has no Skylight integration or calendar link to sync. OFWSync publishes your OFW schedule as a link Skylight syncs with its Calendar URL option.

### Q2: Can my kids change the schedule from the Skylight?

No. Synced calendars are read-only on Skylight. Changes happen in OurFamilyWizard and come through on the next sync.

### Q3: How do I show "Mom's house" instead of a parent's name?

In OFWSync's Feed settings, rename each household under Household names. The new names appear on the Skylight after its next sync.

### Q4: Does it work with Cozyla or other wall calendars?

Yes. Cozyla subscribes with a link too; see the [Cozyla setup page](/ourfamilywizard-cozyla). Most displays that can add a calendar by URL work the same way.

### Q5: How quickly does a trade show up on the Skylight?

OFWSync checks OFW daily on Lite and hourly on Plus, and Skylight then fetches the feed on its own schedule. Fixed schedules rarely notice; frequent traders should choose Plus.

Conclusion
----------

Putting your custody schedule on a Skylight Calendar takes three steps: connect OurFamilyWizard to OFWSync, copy your private feed link, and add it in the Skylight app under Synced Calendars → Sync new calendar → Calendar URL. Rename the households so kids can read them, leave off anything that shouldn't be on the wall, and let trades flow from OFW, which stays the record both parents work from. The kids get an answer to "whose house tonight?" without having to ask.
